Music:Leeds City Music Forum is an opportunity for all stakeholders in music in Leeds to have their say, and feedback on important issues that impact the role and profile of music in the city. This online event will bring the music community together, and discuss recovery, development and plans for celebration from Leeds City Council and Leeds 2023.

Our event in 2019 featured keynote speakers from those working regionally, nationally and in Europe to support music communities, as well as from Tom Riordan, Chief Executive Leeds City Council alongside an open space for attendees to put forward their own topics for discussion. You can find out more about the event, and read the round-up of those discussions here.

For this upcoming event, we would like to bring the music community together to address overcoming the challenges of Coronavirus and the opportunities presented by Leeds 2023 and Leeds Culture Strategy.

Leeds music venues and businesses received over £5m support from the DCMS / Arts Council England Cultural Recovery Fund in Autumn 2020, but many in the music community have not had access to funding, including many self-employed freelancers. The financial impact has also affected many other public services, with Leeds City Council running consultation on services, while facing a £119m deficit for the coming financial year and seeking to maintain its commitment to supporting the culture sector.

Leeds 2023 is planned to be an extraordinary, year-long programme of creative experiences. Co-created with local, national and international artists, Leeds 2023 will be for Leeds, with Leeds and inspired by Leeds. With planning now well underway and a growing team, this will be an opportunity to hear more about the year, what opportunities will exist for music-related activity, and how the music community can take advantage of the spotlight on our city.

We’d like to invite anyone involved with music in Leeds to come to this event, listen, think and contribute to an afternoon of discussion that will feed directly into how music can play a role in the growth of the city, what it needs to be supported, and how it can be showcased. Notes from these conversations will be published after the event.
